Case Study
Our client lost her husband in 2008. She had multiple debts totalling £19,000 and her only income was from welfare benefits including Disability Living Allowance. She was particularly worried about her mortgage arrears.
We discovered that her late husband had a personal pension plan and the proceeds were used to clear the mortgage arrears. On working out a budget it became clear that she only had £3.69 per month available for creditors so she was unable to proceed with any Debt Management Plan she previously had entered.
We sent her financial statement to her creditors and asked them to consider writing off the debts We included supporting medical evidence from her GP. We later heard that her creditors had carefully considered our request and they agreed to write off £13,000 of her debts.
